I have GIMP 2.8.2 for MAC with Mountain Lion, I got the GIMP from lisanet.de. I am trying to install a 3rd party Python script called 'Spirograph'. I DL'd it, clicked on it, got an X-Code version, but now what do I do with it? I don't know where to put it, I don't know how to get any new plug-ins into GiMP. You'll probably want to place GIMP in the 'Applications' folder along with the rest of your programs, so open up your hard drive folder and navigate to 'Applications.' Open the new GIMP folder on your desktop and drag the GIMP icon into your 'Applications' folder. Check and make it's there. If not try dragging the icon again. I just tried the version on partha.com but it acts just the same as the version from gimp.org. Each time I want to run GIMP I have to opens the.dmg file to start the program. It will not install the normal way, like adding the program to the Application folder. OS X: GIMP is a fantastic free alternative to Photoshop for all desktop operating systems, but on Mac it was a bit of a pain to set it up, because you needed to install X11. Gimp now, however. To start the program itself, go to My Computer and look for the drive letter from step 2. Double click that drive and then double click the folder GIMPPortable. In that folder you will find a very clean install of GIMP with the main executable file named GIMPPortable.exe. Double clicking the file starts GIMP.

Installing Film Gimp on Mac OS X

Although Film Gimp has existed for years hidden in CVS, Film Gimp had been a tool used only by the select few inside Hollywood motion picture studios. When the Film Gimp project was publically launched on SourceForge on July 4th, 2002, there had never been a public release. At that time the package was rough in some ways, as you may expect with software that is only used internally. Thanks to the work of the extraordinary Film Gimp development team we are now at release 10, our first release to support the Macintosh.

Our first version of Mac Film Gimp relies upon Fink. (We're researching making Mac Film Gimp work without Fink.) Fink isn't too difficult to install, although you should follow their directions carefully. Unless you modify the Fink configuration file to include the unstable branch, you'll be missing lots of interesting programs. In any case, filmgimp isn't on the list yet, but the local install works great.

We're excited to have Mac users bringing fresh insights to what Film Gimp needs. Please pardon our wet paint.

  1. Download mac.filmgimp-0.10-1.tar.gz or newer from the downloads section
  2. Extract the files
  3. Place the .info and .patch files into /sw/fink/10.2/local/main/finkinfo
    'sudo mv * /sw/fink/10.2/local/main/finkinfo/*'
  4. Run 'fink index'
  5. Run 'fink selfupdate'
  6. Run 'fink update-all'
  7. Run 'fink install filmgimp'
  8. Film Gimp is placed in /sw/bin/filmgimp
  9. Check that /sw/bin is in your path

Like all Fink-based X applications, you'll also need an XServer. OrborOSX is nice. Or, you can run 'fink install xfree86-rootless' to get XDarwin on your machine in your /Applications folder. You also have to install xfree86 via fink or from the XonX--xfree86 project.

To get install the Film Gimp menu in OrborOSX with the extra OroborOSX launch script:

  1. Modify the MacGimp launch script
  2. Save it as MacFilmGimp.x11app
  3. Use 'get info' command to change the application to open the script to OroborOSX

Pin pro for pinterest 1 7. Not only does it work from the Launch menu, it also works from the Dock. From the Dock it will start OroborOSX if it isn't running and launch filmgimp -- cool.
